It takes a very special talent to blend the symphonic and gospel elements that are woven so tightly on Persuaded: Live in D.C. Then again, Richard Smallwood easily falls into that "special talent" category. Decorated with several Dove and Grammy awards, Smallwood's been churning out hand-raising anthems for three decades. With a background in both the classical and gospel worlds, Smallwood and his group Vision passionately worship their Lord with reckless abandon on this record. The opening two numbers capture Smallwood's talent for mixing styles with the orchestra intro of "Procession of the Levites," segued nicely with the blazing-hot "Anthem of Praise." Seeking inspiration? Listen to Charrisse Nelson-McIntosh belt out her worship in "Psalm 8" or Vanessa Williams's testimonial praise in "Your Love Divine." In both tracks, Smallwood leads Vision into dramatic vocal crescendos that lift and exude glory.
