Shaun Groves is part of an emerging cadre of songwriters in Christian music who are showing that intellect doesn't need to be checked at the door of the church. This bright debut of accessible pop-rock, ably produced by the masterful Monroe Jones, opens a lyrical window for us to "eavesdrop" on Groves's conversations with God. The dialogue is honest and refreshing as Groves shares his self-doubt in "Should I Tell Them," the confessions of "Damage Done," and his hopes for eternity in "After the Music Fades." The ground-shaking rock anthem of "Satellite" is one of the release's highlights, as is the subsequent track, "Your Renown," Groves's eloquent and dream-like statement of personal faith. Eavesdrop is a solid debut and another feather in the cap of Michael W. Smith's Rocketown label. --Michael Lyttle Review by Amazon.com |
